Children's Ministry Summer Activities

There are several family-friendly events planned for the summer.

On Saturday, June 21 we traveled to Peoria to see the Peoria Chiefs and the Christian band, Rush of Fools it was a great time!

Join us after church on Sunday, August 10 as we go to Washington Park to have a picnic. We will eat lunch and have some fun playing games. We’ll bring hot dogs, drinks and utensils, we ask that you please bring a dish to pass. Be sure to wear clothes that can get wet, because there will be water balloons-a-plenty!

On Saturday, August 23, we will travel to St. Louis to spend the day at the City Museum. We’ll meet at the church at 8:15 a.m. and leave from there. We plan to return around 5:30 p.m. We will be getting the group rate ticket that cost $6 per person. There is a place to eat pizza at the City Museum, so we plan on eating there.

Please do NOT wear sandals or flip-flops; tennis shoes are ideal. Please sign up in the Kids 2:52 room so that reservations can be made in advance. We’ll be taking the church van, so if you would like to ride with us, please indicate that on the sign-up sheet. Learn more about the City Museum, log on to www.citymuseum.org.

If you have any questions about these events, you may contact Grant Wade, Children’s Ministry Intern (523-3639 ext. 29 or grant@cbcspringfield.org)

Virtue Packs

Virtue packs provide a host of resources for parents to use at home, literally as they lie down (bedtime stories), and they eat (meal time cards), and as they walk or drive down the road (KidJam radio show, and parenting matters for parents). Parents are strongly encouraged to use the packs. We are finding that our families are doing just that. Rather than kids coming to church to learn about God, kids are learning about God all week and coming to church as another place where Biblical values are emphasized.

The importance of teaching virtues is clearly illustrated in the book of Deuteronomy: "Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deuteronomy 6:7 (NIV).

Kids 2:52

Kids 2:52 is a program that is geared for kids who are ages pre-k through 5th grade. It is a family oriented program that encourages parent participation. The program consists of many different elements, but is centered around skits. The skits are performed by teenage actors. The program also includes a family activity where parents and kids can interact together. There is a time for a Bible story and some different videos that we do. The idea of Kids 2:52 is to teach kids virtues. We really believe that doing this helps children develop different virtues in their lives. Each month there is a different virtue (service, honesty, etc.). We also provide virtue packs for families as well. These are tools to help parents and children talk about the virtue and the Bible stories during the week. They contain a lot of different resources that are fun for kids to do. Kids 2:52 begins at 9:45 and usually lasts for about an hour.
